In Vinita, I.T. these days Charles H. Mason, an inhabitant of many years and Perry County's oldest attorney, died at the age of some 70 years. He was born in the State of Vermont, came to Cannelton at the beginning of the 1850s and established himself there as an attorney. At the outbreak of the War of Rebellion he placed himself with youthful enthusiasm on the side of the Union and fired up by patriotic speeches which he held in the whole county, for the fight against the rebels. Around 5 years ago Mason was appointed by President Harrison as a United States Judge in the Indian Territory, and then transferred his residence from Cannelton to Vinita, I.T. The body is being brought to Cannelton and will be buried to its final rest in Cliff Cemetery next to his wife who preceded him in death years ago.
