Biography

John Mason was born in 1849 in England to John Mason and Caroline Hindley. The family is first found in the 1851 English census in Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England.^[1] Four of the couple's 8 children would be born in England, with the last four born in Canada, which is where the Mason family was found in the 1861 Canadian census, where they are living in Chatham, Kent, Canada West.^[2]

Sometime between 1861 and 1870 the family moved to Michigan, being found in the 1870 census living in Genesee, Genesee County.^[3]

John Mason married Mary Ann Lemon in Armada, Macomb county, Michigan on the 20th of May in 1874.^[4] The couple had 10 children, all but one living to adulthood, before John died in Washington Township in Macomb County on the 7th of July in 1898.^[5]
