Biography

Stella was born in 1891. She was the daughter of William J. Mason and Rhoda Weatherford. She passed away in 1985. [1]

The 58th family in the census is the William J. Mason family consisting of William J. (39), wife Rhoda M. (38) and son Carroll (13), daughter Cora E. (11) and daughter Stella C. (9). William and Rhoda have been married for 14 years and have had three children, all of who are still living. William is a farmer and they rent the farm. William reports he and his parents were born in Kentucky while Rhoda reports she was born in Indiana but her parents were born in Kentucky. Mary E. Mason, his mother, is listed next in the census records. The David Alton Mason family is listed a few lines above them in the census as well. [2]

Stella Mason and Eli Jackson are wed on 13 Feb 1909. [3]

1910 – Kentucky, Breckinridge County, District 2, 20 Apr 1910
The 41st family in the census is the Sam (82) and Harriet (74) Muffett couple. Living with them is Eli H. Jackson (24), Stella C. Jackson (15) and their child Zilpha (5 mos.). Stella is reported to be the niece of Sam and Harriet. Sam and Harriet own the home and Sam is retired living off his own income. Eli is listed as a tenant and a general farmer. Sam and Harriet are both on their second marriage and have been married for 30 years. Harriet has no children. Stella and Eli have been married one year and have just the one child listed on this census. Harriet is from Kentucky but lists her father as from Virginia and her mother as from Maryland. Everyone else and their parents are from Kentucky. [4]

1918 – Kentucky, Breckinridge County, Tar Fork
WWI draft registration record of Eli David Jackson shows his date of birth as 2 Jul 1885. He lists his wife as Stella C. Jackson and is a farmer. He is reported to be of medium height with a slender build, blue eyes and dark hair.

1920 – Kentucky, Breckinridge County, Cloversport, 15 Jan 1920
The 8th family on the census is the Eli D. Jackson family with Eli D. (34), Stella C. (28) and children Zylpha H. (10), Carrol D. (5), Marvin V. (3) and Eli D. (1). The farm is owned and every reports they can read and write. Stella reports her mother is from Indiana and everyone else reports they and their parents as born in Kentucky. Eli is a general farmer. Listed on the same page of the census is the James L. Mason family, possible a relative. [5]

1930 – Kentucky, Breckinridge County, Cloversport, 11 Apr 1930
They are the 72nd family in District 8 living on Bowling Green Cloversport Road. Eli D. (44) and wife Stella C (37) are living with children Carroll D. (15), Marvin V. (13), Eli D. Jr. (11) and Katherine C. (5). The home is owned. Eli reports to have been 24 when married and Stella is reported to have been 17. Eli is still a general farmer and both Carroll an Marvin are reported as farm laborers. Next door to them is the Frank and Bertha Burdette family. [6]

1940 – Kentucky, Breckinridge, Other, District 14-18, McDaniels, 26 Apr 1940
Sheet 61B shows Eli Jackson (54), wife Stella C. (48) and daughter Catherine (15) are living on the farm they own. The farm is valued at $500. Eli reports he has a 6th grade education, wife Stella has an 8th grade education and daughter Catherine has an 8th grade education. They all report living in the same house in 1935. All report they were born in Kentucky. Eli lists no occupation. [7]
