Biography

Birth

John Mason was the son of Daniel Mason and Experience (Newcomb) Mason. He was born in Newton on December 23, 1725.^[1]

Marriage

John married Elizabeth Dunton (1727-1822), daughter of Thomas Dunton of Warren, Massachusetts. Presumably occurred prior to the birth of their first child in Barre in 1751, but no record of the wedding found in Vital Records of Barre, Newton, or Warren.

Life in Barre

John settled at Barre, about 1750, was a member of the Provincial Congress, 1774-1775, representative to the Genral Court, 1776, 1777, 1780, 1781, selectman, 1775, 1776, 1777, 1779, town assessor, 1779, delegate to the Covention, Cambridge Mass., September 1779, moderator fourteen times, and many years Deacon of the church.

Death

Deacon John Mason died in Barre on May 1, 1784, in his 58th year.^[3]
