Biography

"Thomas Mason conducted a large cooper shop and made barrels, hogsheads, kegs, etc.".... "Thomas Mason operated an early corncracker, the motor of which was a sweep drawn by horses or cattle." Source: Early Businesses in Troy, published History of Perry County, Indiana.

A descendant of Maj. John Mason, who migrated from England to New England in 1632 and lived in Windsor, CT by 1635.

Thomas' father was Elnathan Hobart Mason, who served in the Revolutionary War in the 10th Company, 6th Regiment, Connecticut Militia. He also served in Captain Latham's Artillery Co., under Col. William LEDYARD, and was at the Battle of Fort GRISWOLD in 1781. Elnathan's wife, Mary Griffin, was a proven Rev. William Brewster [of the ship Mayflower] descendant.
