Lewis Massey, son of James Massey and Ann Lewis, was born on 4 November 1725 in Marple, Chester, Pennsylvania. [1]
According to The Massey Genealogy - Descendants of Thomas Massey, Lewis married someone - most likely Ann - on 10 October 1760. According to this same source a Thomas Massey was born in 1756. Thus, if Thomas Massey was indeed the son of Lewis, he must have been a child of an earlier marriage. [2]
Lewis and his wife Ann (whose maiden name is yet unknown) had at least two sons: Lewis Massey, Junior, and Samuel Massey. [3]
Lewis Massey was excommunicated from the Quaker church for marrying a non-quaker. A document shows that Lewis' brothers Abraham, William and James were also in Loudoun County in the period 1763-1777. William went back to Chester County, Pennsylvania; Abraham and James went to North Carolina. After Lewis' death in 1766, Ann was made administratrix of Lewis' inventory in Loudoun County, Virginia, where the family was then living, whereas Lewis' father James was made his administrator in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Descent from noblemen Wm Massey & Hamon de Massey
Lewis Massey was descended from two Massey ancestral lines:
Hamon I belonged to the first Massey generation to be born in Cheshire, England: the Masseys before him lived in Normandy, a Dutchy - now Region - in north-western France, across the Channel from England. Indeed, Hamon's father Guillaume Seigneur de la Ferté-Macé is believed to have come over to England from Normandy with William the Conquerer, Duke of Normandy (1035 - 1087), later King of England (1066 - 1087).
Our Norman Massey forefathers were originally Northmen , Norsemen, Vikings, whose leader Rollo in A.D. 911 reached an agreement with Charles the Simple, King of Western Francia, surrendering the county of Rouen to Rollo: the lands around Rouen became the core of the later duchy of Normandy, new homeland of the Norman French, former Viking plunderers from Norway and Denmark.
