Biography

When John Mather was born on July 13, 1721, in Lyme, Connecticut, his father, Joseph Mather, was 35 and his mother, Phebe DeWolf, was 30. He married Mercy Higgins and they had thirteen children together. After Mercy died, he then married Ruth Robbins on February 25, 1785, in Lyme, Connecticut. He died on January 1, 1804, in Old Lyme, Connecticut, having lived a long life of 82 years, and was buried there.
