James Mathews was part of a Southern Pioneer Family.
James was born in Augusta County, Virginia in 1755. He was son of William Mathews and Elizabeth Wright.
He claimed to have served in Capt W. James McKittrick's Company on Virginia frontier, but his pension was later denied for reasons he did not serve in Revolution. He may have served under Capt. John McKittrick.
He migrated with immediate and extended family members to Kentucky and settled in what became Boone and Kenton counties.
He passed away in 1844.
