Notes

Note N9601/08/1998, Ruth (Mathisen) Basse:
Louise was an army nurse. She left the service to get married because they didn't allow married nurses at the time. Later, during WWII, she went back because they needed nurses, regardless of marital status. She completed her 30 years for retirement (as a Lt. Colonel) and just before the completion, she met Jose Ergas. He was, I think, a civilian doctor in the service. They met in Missouri. (I asked if it was in Kansas City, but she didn't think so; someplace south of K.C.) After they were married, they stayed in Fredericksburg for a while. Later they drove to Chile and they lived in Puerto Rico for a while. Jose had been in the diplomatic corp and served on a ship in WWII. Might have been the Merchant Marines. I think his father was also in the diplomatic corp. They never had any children having met and married late in life. Jose died over the Christmas holidays at a family gathering.
