Hi Karen,

When I was at my local FHC last week, I was looking at the 2 issues of the Western New York Genealogy Society Journals they had there from Jun 1991 and Sept 1991, Vol 28, No. 1 and 2. In them were a record of "Early Deaths in Lancaster 1808-1870 and it went up to the P's.. They didn't have the following issue, which I will try to at least get the copy of the rest of the alphabet, but there were some Matters in it.

Mr. Matter old d. 1 Apr 1862 74 yrs

Mrs. Matter d. 18 Jan 1868 76 yrs.

Henry d. 22 Sept 1868 45 yrs.

child of Mr. d. 18 Nov 1870 2 yrs.. (this can't be the child of the Mr above if he was only 2)

Thanks for the information. I need to go through St Mary's books again. I say a few Matters in there, but I'm betting I missed some (or alot). I saw a Nicolas, Adelaide (who is the sister of Catherine Matter Schwartz), and Johannes. Karen

The family mentioned above is Matters. The name was originally Matterer. They are a different family from the Matter family. The child who died in 1870 is Fred Matters.
