Charles was baptised on 23 September 1821. He is the son of John Matthews and Cordelia Hichens.

Charles never married and lived with his siblings. He worked as a farmer at Tremedda and sister Elizabeth worked as his housekeeper.

He passed away in 1886 aged 64 at Tremedda and was buried 1 on January 16..
