Hugh Matthew married, 28 August 1683 in Newbury, Mary Emerson.
Children, born in Newbury:
20 April 1728, Hugh Matthews of Newbury, yeoman, and Mary his wife, sell to Alexander Lovell, Jr., of Ipswich, cordwainer, all their right, title, etc., unto the common right or share in the common that was entered to their grandfather, Theophilus Willson, late of Ipswich, deceased, together with all the shares and divisions of common land lately laid out to the right of said Theophilus Willson, that is, in Jeffries Neck division, thatch division, wood division and the eighth division. Ack. same day. (Essex Deeds, Vol. L)
18 April 1734, complaint having been made that her husband had been dead more than four years, the court ordered Mary Matthews, relict of Hew, to appear and take administration on his estate. She declined, saying there was nothing to administer, Hugh never having had title to the house and land (twenty rods) where he lived.[1] This land was sold by John and Elizabeth (Matthews) Short in 1739.[2]
