Walter was born in Elstead, Surrey, England about 1870, the son of Charles and Mary Matthews. [1]
He emigrated to New Zealand and settled in Inglewood; later moving to Paeroa. By 1931, he was living in Netherton, Thames Valley. [2]
A grandson, Colin Bayly killed in a shooting accident at Paeroa. [3]
He passed away about 1956 aged 86 years old.
