Note

A Matthews History - The Family of Thomas Matthews (ca. 1631) of Hall Comb, Terry Cowan, et al. - pp.571, excerpt: "Elizabeth Matthews - [daughter of Samuel Matthews] Elizabeth was born on 30 Nov 1825 in Monroe County, KY. She married Bennett Jarvis McLerran. Elizabeth died on 15 Oct 1883 in Cooke County, TX. She was buried in Dye Cemetery, Cooke County, TX.... Bennett Jarvis McLerran and Elizabeth Matthews McLerran moved to Hopkins County, Texas about 1848. He obtained a pre-emption land grant east of his father-in-law's farm. When the Samuel Matthews estate was settled, McLerran purchased the Matthews homeplace. During the Civil War, he served as a sergeant in Company E, Chisums Regiment of Texas Cavalry. McLerran was captured and taken prisoner. He died in a prisoner of war camp. By early 1868, Elizabeth had taken the family to Searcy County, Arkansas, where her sister Polly Redman lived. She returned to Texas shortly after 1870., settling affairs in Hopkins County and then moving to Cooke County where many of her people had already settled."
