Biography

Mary Ethel was born on 19 September 1895 in Kentucky. She was the daughter of Arthur Mattingly and Phoebe Ellen (Unknown) Mattingly.^[1]

When Mary Ethel was about 17 she married Jonathan Jones Low in about 1913 at an unknown location. The couple had 3 children: Maura Kathryn Low, Virginia Sue Low and Martha Ellen Low.

Mary Ethel died at the age of 30 on 16 February 1926 in Memphis at Baptist Memorial Hospital, and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Sardis, MS.^[1]

Note: According to great-granddaughter Donna Puckett, Mary Ethel Mattingly Low died of stomach cancer in Memphis, TN. Jones Low did not marry his second wife until the bills were paid off from his first wife's last illness.
