Biography

By Mauldin Researcher Aaron Mauldin: The FRANCIS MAULDIN in the 1860 Pickens Co. GA census is the father of LEMUEL HOMER (1812-1876+) , ALVEY (1830-1860+) , BLUFORD (1827-1922) and probably Eliza and Matilda (1842+- to 1872) and maybe Ed’s gggfather, WILLIAM HARRISON. This Francis was born in SC about 1790, moved to Habersham Co. GA during 1850 and was a miller in Pickens Co. GA in the 1860 census. In the 1860 census, before the war, Francis, Catherine and Matilda were living in eastern Pickens Co. Ga. Bluford and Alvey were living in Gordon Co. in North Ga. After the war, Alvey’s widow, JANE HICE, Bluford (with second wife) and Matilda were all living close together in western Pickens Co. Ga. Also, a LABAN MAULDIN who was in Gwinnett Co. GA is 1860 had also moved to western Pickens Co. GA. Francis is listed in the SC census for 1820, 1830 and 1840. He is listed in the Habersham Co. GA census for 1850.

Matilda is listed in Francis’ household in 1860. I believe she was Francis’ daughter. Francis moved from SC to GA during 1850 with Bluford and 2 daughters.

Francis is not listed in the 1870 census; however, Matilda is listed as head of household with 4 minor children – ANDREW age 9, SARAH age 7, LEROY age about 5 and JOHN WESLEY age 2 months. I don’t know if Matilda was the mother of any or all of these children. Matilda died during 1872. Francis Mauldin could be WHMs Father and Rucker Mauldin could still be his Grandfather. Still looking.

ADDENDUM (added August 2020 by Lemuel Edward Mauldin III): Family bibles prove Rucker Mauldin was the father of Francis Mauldin and Francis Mauldin was the father of Lemuel Harrison Mauldin.
