He took freeman oath in 1633 and the same year m. Ann Harris. Elias lived in Winissimett, near brother Samuel, He was in Chelsesa, Mass. in 1630 and Charlestown in 1632. In 1654 he was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company. Estate: 820 pounds. (Search for the Passengers of the Mary and John 1630)
Conclusive proof of the paternal ancestry of Elias Maverick as furnished by the record of the suit brought in 1612 by his grandfather, Peter Mavericke, clerk, against William Champneys (vide supra, p. 150). Further evidence is provided by the will of James Parker, proved in 1652 in Barbados, who was married to Elias' sister Mary. He named Mary (Maverick) as the executor of his estate while naming his “brothers” Elias and “Moyses” Maverick as executors of his affairs. As it was common in legal documents in the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries to refer to in-laws as brothers, sons, etc., this provides strong support of the connection of Elias to his parents, as both his siblings Mary and Moses appear in the baptismal records of South Huish parish as children of John and Mary (Gye) Maverick.[1]
He was at Winnissimet (now Chelsea), Mass., in 1630; was admitted to the church at Charlestown 9 Feb 1632/3; was made freeman 11 June 1633; and lived at Winnissimet, near his brother Samuel's house, on the westerly part of the Maverick estate (now belonging to the U.S. Governmant). In 1654 he was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company. He deposed 15 June 1680, aged 75. His will dated 13 Oct 1681, was proved 6 Nov 1684, his estate being appraised at 820 pounds, 15 shillings. (English Origins of New England Families)
