Biography

William was born in 1844. He is the son of Radford Maxey and Nancy Logan. He passed away in 1920.

In the 1850 census William (age 4) was in District 99, Warren, Missouri, United States.[1]

[2]"William Alexander Maxey, a son of Radford C. and Nancy (Logan) Maxey, was born in Montgomery County, Missouri, on 1 April 1844. He was orphaned before he was three, and William and his two brothers were raised by their maternal grandparents, Alexander and Elizabeth (Quick) Logan, in South Bear Creek, Bridgeport Township, Warren County, Missouri. William was found in that county with them in the 1850 census; with his widowed grandmother and some of her children in the 1860 census; and with his uncle Gilbert Logan and his grandmother in the 1870 census.

By 1880 William and his brother John were living in Lower Loutre Township in Montgomery County. Their brother George had died in the Civil War. Before 1880 William had made two trips to California and lived there about ten years. On 24 April 1883, in Warren County, he married Mary Elizabeth Logan (born 18 February 1855, Warren County, Missouri), a daughter of Alexander and Malinda E. (Bryan) Logan. Mary was a milliner and dressmaker, and before her marriage was in business with another woman in St. Charles and Hermann, Missouri. (Mary's father and William's mother were brother and sister.)

William and Mary spent all their married life in Montgomery County, mainly on their farm near McKittrick. They also resided in Montgomery City for several years, where William was in the grocery business. He died of cancer on 21 March 1920 at his home in Price's Branch, Montgomery County. Mary Elizabeth died on 11 October 1942 in Mexico, Audrain County, Missouri. They had been members of the Christian Church.

William had left a will dated 12 January 1915 and proved 27 March 1920 in which he requested that half of his estate be divided between his two surviving children, Stephen Elmer Maxey and Susie Bishop, and the other half was to go to his wife Mary.

Son Stephen was in the real estate business in Ralls County, Missouri. He and his wife Sarah had one child, Helen, born 19 October 1925, at New London, Ralls County, who married John Ransdell.
