Edward Maxey Jr was a Virginia colonist.

Property

On 17 August 1725, Edward Maxey and his son Edward Maxey Jr each patented 400 acres of land in in Henrico County (now Powhatan County)[1] .[2]

Court Case

Henrico County April 1724 Court records, page 335.

William Bradford by his petition, sets forth that John Gates bequeathed the care of his two Sons William and James to Charles Snugs, who did appoint the petitioner his Sole Executor residuary Legatee _ist_.

(William Bradford is suing Edward Maxey JR. for custody of William and James Gates the sons of John Gates. John Gates died and named Charles Snugs as guardian of the children. Charles Snugs has died and William Bradford claims to be the executor of Charles Snugs estate.)

Edward Maxey Junr hath Seduced from him the said Children, and praying they may be ordered to return to him. The Court, upon consideration of the wills of James Gates & Charles Snugs ____ of ___ on his pet_ hath not any right to the Guardianship or tuition of the said Gates's heirs, and the petition is dismist.

(The court ruled that after reading the will's of John Gates and Charles Snugs, that William Bradford is not entitled to be the guardian of the Gates boys.)

1 feather bed furniture & bedstead, 1 bed and furniture, a parcell old Cloaths, a parcell old Iron, 2 Gun barrells, 1 Spining wheel, a parcell Carpenters & Coopers tools, 2 narrow axes, 1 weeding hoe [little], 1 parcell auls tacks & Hammer & bulletmolds, 1 frying pan, 2 in 5d nailes, 2 " pd wool, 1 Gun, 1 old saddle & bridle, 15 Hobs & 6 Shofes, 1 Shoat, 1 Bay Gelding, 13 cattle, 1 old mare & 2 Colts, 13 Spoons, 19 1/3 lb pewter, 17 lb Cotton in the Seed, 2 ____ Sifters, 1 parcell old lumber, 2 Iron pots & pot Hooks, 1 box Iron & Clamps, 24 Shots, 2 Hogs, 1 old Cow bell, 1 bay gelding

The above Inventory or the goods therein contained was appraised by the Subscribers herein first Sworn of John Woodson December the 10th 1726. Witness's: William Easley, Francis James, William Howel.

Elizabeth Maxey came before me the 26th June 1727 & made oath that the above was a true & perfect Inventory of the Estate of Edwd Maxey Deceased Wm Mayo

At a Court held for Henrico County July 3d 1727 This Inventory was presented in Court and ordered to be recorded Test. Henry Wood Clerk
