Elizabeth Maxwell-168 and Elizabeth Maxwell-949 should be merged after parents have been agreed upon. They clearly the same person.

Biography

Elizabeth (Maxwell) Maxwell Lady Dacre is a member of Clan Maxwell.

Elizabeth was probably married twice. Her parents have not been conclusively determined. She died before 1 January 1369/70. ^[1]

Parents (disputed)

Elizabeth's parents have been reported as either Alexander, Lord Maxwell^[2] and John, Lord Maxwell.^[1][3] Given that no Alexanders were Lords of Maxwell, John would seem the most likely father. No source with Maxwell family origins has been found that cites either of these Maxwells with a daughter named Elizabeth, though.

Marriages and Children

Her first husband may have been William de Douglas of Hermitage of Liddesdale, sometimes Earl of Atholl. He was 4th Lord Dacre.^[1] William died in August 1353.^[3]

They had one daughter:

• Mary, died around 30 June 1367^[1]

She was a widow when she married her second husband, Hugh de Gillesland. He is also styled as Hugh de Dacre.^[3] Douglas focused sources do not mention the name of a wife.

They had one son:

• William Dacre^[1]
