Times Journal - June 9, 1965 Manorkill Man Killed in Crash near Gilboa A one car accident on Route 23 near Gilboa Saturday night claimed the life of 35 year old Leland Maxwell Jr. of Manorkill, Gilboa. State police who investigated said the Maxwell car was head west on Route 23 one half mile east of the South Gilboa Road, when it went out of control and overturned. Coroner Dr. Frank Konta said Maxwell, who was alone, died of a fractured neck and fractured skull. Investigator William Courlis of Duanesburg and Troopers Morey and Weiland of Warnerville said the westbound auto landed on its roof in a field after rolling over several times. The driver's door was open and Maxwell's body was partially ejected, police said. Leland Maxwell Jr. was born November 2, 1929 at Howes Cave, the son of Leland and Mildred Warner Maxwell. He had been employed at Timerland Products in Stamford. He is survived by his wife, Carol Diamond Maxwell; five children Carol Ann, Debby, Maxine, Mildred and Leland; his father,three sisters Mrs. Virginia Ledger of Schenectady; Mrs. Violet Reed and Miss Mildred Maxwell both of Albany; and two brothers Velmore Maxwell of Connecticut and Ralph Maxwell of California. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Home in Middleburgh with the burial in the Middleburgh Cemetery.^[1]
