Biography

William (Maxwell) Maxwell of Monreith 1st Bt is a member of Clan Maxwell.

Sir William Maxwell of Monreith, 1st Bt. was born circa 1635.

He was the son of William Maxwell and Margaret MacCulloch.

He married, firstly, Joanna McDouall, daughter of Patrick McDouall of Logan

He married secondly Elizabeth Hay, daughter of Thomas Hay of Park and Margaret :Kennedy.

He died in April 1709.

He was created 1st Baronet Maxwell, of Monreith, co. Wigton [Nova Scotia] on 8 January 1680/81.
