Catherine Maxwell was the daughter of Herbert Maxwell, 1st Lord Maxwell and unknown daughter Herries.[1][2]

She married Gilbert Kennedy of Dunure, 1st Lord Kennedy, son of Sir James Kennedy of Dunure, younger and Lady Mary Stewart, circa 1440. [1] They had issue:[3][4] They had issue:

  1. John, 2nd Lord Kennedy,[3] born 12 October 1454, died between 24 July 1508 - 13 May 1509
  2. James, designed of Row. Thought to be the first Laird of Baltersan. Married Egidia Blair.[3]
  3. Alexander Kennedy.[3]
  4. Gilbert of Crochba, Provost of the Collegiate Church of Maybole, apparently no issue.[3]
  5. Robert Kennedy.[3]
  6. Walter Kennedy of Glentig, and parson of Douglas.[3]
  7. Katherine married Alexander Montgomery before 1459, grandson and heir of Alexander, first Lord Montgomery.[3]
  8. Marion, contracted 12 Apr 1459 to marry John Wallace, son and heir of William Wallace of Craigie, and on 20 Jan 1465 to marry James, eldest son of Robert Boyd. It does not appear that she married either man. [3]
  9. Agness, m. George Campbell.[5] (Not named in Scots Peerage.)
