Research Notes

His birth year of 1819 has been based on 1850 and later census. However he is not listed as a child of Greenberry May his presumed father in the 1820 census. Since he is a Jr according to the 1840 census, it is presumed that his father is Greenberry. There is only one Greenberry in the 1820 census, so his birth year is likely 1820 or later.

The following seventeen non-white men with the last name of May are in Mississippi in 1870. They may have been enslaved by Greenberry or one of his relatives:

The parents and siblings belong to William Greenberry May (May-7393). The wife and children belong to a different Greenberry May who was born in 1819. Either way you try to fix it, its gonna be a mess.
