Patriotic Services Samuel May-Revolutionary War Posted 25 Jun 2012 by ovata33 Ebenezer’s son, Samuel May, born 17 Feb 1723 in Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts, and died 9 Aug 1794 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He married first, Catherine Mears 14 Sep 1748 in Boston, daughter of James and Mehetable Mears. Catherine was born 14 Oct 1730 in Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts and died 20 Mar 1752 in Roxbury. He married second, Abigail Williams 4 Oct 1753 in Roxbury, daughter of Col. Joseph and Martha

(Howell) Williams. She was born 22 Aug 1733 in Roxbury and died 29 Dec 1811 in Roxbury. Samuel was a builder, and dealer in lumber, member of Rev. Dr. Byles’s church, Hollis St., and, during the Revolutionary War, of Old South Church. As an Architect had considerable skill; built Episcopal Church, Old Cambridge, still standing, symmetrical and in good taste. A man of great energy, and many records exist of his kindness and generosity. His mansion on Orange, now Washington St., was still standing in 1854. Samuel and Catherine had one child, Mehetabel May. Samuel and Abigail had one child, Joseph May.



Samuel & his 2 wives were buried at Central Burial Ground (?Eliot Buring Ground) in Boston from which their bodies were moved in 1882 to the Forest Hills Cemetery in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. Samuel lived in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. He was a builder, an architect, & a dealer in lumber....a man of great energy.

He was a builder and dealer in lumber, and an architect of considerable skill. He built the Episcopal church in Old Cambridge, which is still standing. His mansion was standing on Orange, now Washington street, in 1854. and a photograph of it is in existence. Davis street covers in part the area of his lumber wharf. He was a member of Rev. Dr. Byles' church, on Hollis street, and during the revolution was a member of the Old South Church.
