David Rea May was born on 1 June 1826 in Belfast, Ireland.[1]
His parents are unknown, but were also born in Ireland.[2]
He immigrated to the U.S., date unknown.
He married Harriet P. "Hattie" Lindsy, daughter of Beaufort and Nancy A. (Unknown) Lindsy. They had at least nine children. Their known children were:

He apparently served the Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War.[1]
By 1870, the family settled on a farm in Pike County, Mississippi.[3]
David died 28 August 1889, and was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Summit, Pike County, Mississippi, USA.[1]
