Shelton Mays wed Patsy Laffoon September 25, 1834 in Surry County, North Carolina as seen in an image of Marriage bond abstracts, 1780-1868.^[1]

Shelton Maye was enumerated at Thompson, Surry County, North Carolina for the September 26, United States Census, 1850. He was noted as born 1811 in North Carolina and a laborer as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are female Martha Maye, female Rebecca Maize, female Matilda Maize, female Nancy Maize, female Thankfull Maize, male Stephen Maize, female Mary Maize and male Nathan Maize.^[2]
