Biography

Mr. Mayes passed away July 4, 2011 at his home following a yearlong battle with Scleroderma.

Perry D. Mayes was born February 16, 1940 in Davenport, a son of Orlando Lemuel and Ella "Faye" (Twaddle) Mayes. He was a 1958 graduate of Davenport High School and attended Palmer Junior College.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Ward on November 24, 1960 in Quincy, IL. She preceded him in death on March 10, 1994. He was then united in marriage to Joan (nee Hancock) Fox May 30, 2003 in Davenport. Perry was employed at Kartridg Pak for 25 years as a machinist in research and development, retiring in 1992.

Perry was an avid Hawkeye fan and past President of the North Scott I-Club. He also liked to dance and travel and spend time with his grandchildren. He was a Navy Veteran.

Survivors include his wife Joan, sons:

• Jeff Mayes, Rocklin, CA;

grandchildren: Devon Mayes, Soquel, CA, Makenzie and Cassidy Mayes, Roseville, CA; brother Paul (Nancy) Mayes, Palm Coast, FL; sister-in-law Marge Mayes, Rock Island; step children Cindy (David) Lukehart, Urbandale, IL, Debbie Madsen, Durant, Richard (Vivian) Fox, San Diego, CA, and Jim (Tricia) Fox, Geneseo; step grandchildren Alysha, Travis, Britney, Shannon, Emily, Sam, Nick, and Josephine; step great grandchildren Andrew, Teagan, and Rylen.

An infant granddaughter Delaney, sisters Erma and Nettie Beth, brothers Daniel and Lester, and his parents preceded him in death.
