Biography

William Alonzo was born on Christmas Day, 1876. William Alonzo Mayfield died at age 47 from a cerebral hemmorhage in Anderson on Mar. 12, 1924. He was a farmer. His wife recalled that his mother's maiden name was Cherry. Her signature confirms her middle name started with R. Burial in Lanagan?, MO. [1]

The 1910 US Census shows at that time in Pineville, McDonald, Missouri, William A. Mayfield was 34 years old, born in Arkansas, living with his wife, "Maggie R. Mayfield" (age 22, born in Missouri), their son, "James H. Mayfield " (age 3, born in Missouri) and their daughter, "Lillie P. Mayfield" (age 1, born in Missouri). William A. Mayfield's father was born in Arkansas, and his mother was also born in Arkansas. Maggie's father was born in "United States" and her mother was born in Ohio. William's job is given as "Laborer, Coal Shoveler." [2]

The 1920 US Census shows on 18 January 1920 in McMillan, McDonald, Missouri, that William A. Mayfield (age 42, born in Arkansas) was the head of his household, living with his wife, "Maggie H. Mayfield" (age 32, born in Missouri), and their two sons and two daughters. Their children included: James H. Mayfield (age 13, born in Missouri), Lilly P. Mayfield (age 11, born in Missouri), Gertie E. Mayfield (age 3, born in Missouri), and Clifford R. Mayfield (age 0, born in Missouri). William was employed as "Farm Laborer" and the Mayfields stated that they rented their home. William's father and mother are both shown to have been born in Arkansas, and Maggie's father was shown to have been born in Tennessee, and her mother in Iowa. [3]
