Robert was an American inventor, who invented a version of the reaper which his eldest son Cyrus McCormick patented in 1834. He married Mary Ann "Polly" Hall, and the couple had eight children. He had a variety of winter wheat named after him in honor of his contribution to agricultural advancements.
