Final Rites Held for Mrs. Geo. Spencer Mrs. George Spencer, 79, resident of Deford most of her life died Jan. 20 in the home of a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Spencer at Harbor Beach, where she and Mr. Spencer had lived the past three months. Funeral services were helc Saturday at 2 p. m. in the Douglas Funeral Home. Rev. Miss Edith Smith, pastor of the Deford Methodist Church, officiated and burial was in Novesta Cemetery. Josephine M. McCain, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs James W. McCain, was born at Fort Gratiot, St. Clair County on Sept. 16, 1874, and was married to Mr. Spencer July 29 1891, at Caro. Surviving are: her husband one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Winifred) Colwell of Saginaw; two sons, Seth L.' Spencer of Dearborn and Alvah A. Spencer o: Auburn Hts.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren Three children preceded her in death.

Novesta Township Residents Will Celebrate Their 50th Wedding Anniversary Sunday

Next Tuesday, July 29, Mr. and Mrs. George Spencer of Deford will have been married 50 years. The celebration of the event will take place two days earlier, Sunday, July 27, when relatives will gather at the Spencer home, a mile north and a half mile east of Deford, for potluck dinner at noon. Open house will be observed from two to five o'clock Sunday afternoon when friends of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer will call and extend felicitations. Mr. Spencer was born at Five Lakes, Lapeer County, on June 21, 1870, and came' to Novesta Township in 1881. Josephine McCain, who came to that township in 1889, was born at Fort Gratiot, St. Clair County, on September 16, 1874. They were united in marriage July 29, 1891, in the M. E. parsonage in Caro. They resided in Pontiac one year and the remaining years of their married life in Novesta Township, the last 33 years on the farm which is their present home. Mr. Spencer was employed on the railroad section and train service of the P., O. & N. R. R. for 16 years, worked for a time in the Deford grain elevator and spent several years in the pursuit of farming. He served as treasurer of his school district 16 years, and township treasurer two years. Mrs. Spencer was for 15 years commander of the Lady Maccabee hive at Deford. They have four children, Lyle Spencer of Bad Axe, Mrs. Winnie Colwell of Saginaw, Seth Spencer of Detroit and Alvah Spencer of Auburn Heights.
