Elizabeth McCall was the first child of Archibald and Katherine (Flood) McCall. Her mother died shortly after her younger sister was born, very likely of complications from childbirth. In 1773, at age 8 she was sent by her father, along with her sister Catherine, to Glasgow, where she was to be raised and educated among her father's relatives.
In May of 1777 her father established her and her sister in a boarding school in London. She attended this school for only a few months before dying of a fever before the close of the year.
