Gordy was born about 1906, the son of Harry McCall and Doris Priest. In 1910, the family lived in Mt. Clemons, Michigan, where in faher worked as a motorman, operating street cars.[1] By 1920, they have moved to Big Rapids, in Mecosta County, as Gordy's father worked as a molder in a foundry.[2] In 1930, they were living in Albion County, in Calhoun, where Gordy's father had taken work as an engineer at a school building. Gordy worked as trimmer at a malleable iron foundry.[3] At the time of the 1940 U.S. federal census, they were living in Albion City, with Gordy working as a gas station attendant and his father working as a painter. Gordy married Pauline V. Darling (1916-1996) in Kalamazoo, Michigan on July 9, 1955.[4] Pauline had been married previously, to William R. Walters, who passed away in 1937. It's not known what became of the marriage, but Gordy remarried, marrying Virginia Pelfrey Goble (1930-1997) in Dickenson, Virginia on July 15, 1970.[5]
