Daughters Leila and Beulah were children of Mary Jane and her first husband, James M. Masters. Following her first husband's death, Mary Jane married Felix M. Walter, and they became the parents of Lawrence, Nina, Lucille, Helen, Sidney, and Margaret. Leila and Beulah were half-sisters of each of the children of Mary Jane and Felix.
There were, in addition, four step-children who would have shared the same household. John W. Walter, Paul Walter, Mary Agnes Walter, and Mary Lucy Walter were children of Felix M. Walter and his first wife, Mary L. Warthen. These four were step-siblings of Leila and Beulah and half-siblings of each of the children of Mary Jane and Felix.
Text of obituary :
"Mrs. Mary Jane Walter, aged 69 years, widow of Felix M. Walter, died Friday evening at 7:45 o'clock at the home of her son, Lawrence Walter, near Highfield, after a lingering illness of the last six years. Death was due to diabetes. She had been critically ill since June 3.
"Mrs. Walter was born near Sabillasville, Md., the daughter of John and Sarah Rebecca (Cline) McClain and lived practically her entire life in the Blue Ridge Summit section. Her husband died in 1925.
"She was a member of the St. Stephens Reformed Church at Highfield.
"Surviving are the six daughters and one son: Mrs. Guernon Barton, Blue Ridge Summit; Mrs. Louis Cunningham, Altoona; Mrs. Angelo Kary, Baltimore; Mrs. Carl Ritzinger, Collingdale, Pa.; Mrs. Robert Gettings, Baltimore; Mrs. Mervin Zimmerman, Chadds Ford, Pa.; Lawrence Walter, Blue Ridge Summit; and three step-children John Walter, Emmitsburg; Paul Walter, Baltimore and Miss Agnes Walter, Blue Ridge Summit. Eleven grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. D. C. Flohr, Blue Ridge Summit and Mrs. H. E. Zeigler, Mill Valley, California and two brothers, William McClain, Baltimore and John McClain, Collingsville. Pa., also survive.
"The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from St. Stephens Reformed Church, Highfield at 2:30 o'clock in charge of the Rev. Darwin X. Gass. Interment will be made in Bethel cemetery.
"The body may be viewed this evening between the hours of 7 and 9 o'clock at the Grove Funeral Home and also at the church Sunday from 2 until 2:30 p. m."
