Biography

John Breckenridge McClanahan was born about 1752 in Augusta County, Virginia. He was the son of Robert McClanahan and Sarah Breckenridge. He was probably their second son - younger than brother Alexander and older than brother Robert who was killed at Point Pleasant.[1]

John married Margaret Ann Lewis on Jan 24, 1770, in Augusta County, Virginia.[2] They had two children - Thomas Lewis and John.

He was extensively engaged in business, having Thomas Lewis (his father-in-law) and Andrew Lewis as partners.[1]

John died on June 30, 1774, in Staunton, Augusta, Virginia, at the age of about 22. His will, offered for probate on November 16, 1774, was dated June 25, 1774, only five days before his death. He left behind his widow Margaret, a son Thomas Lewis (who died soon after in November 1774), and a second son, John, born after his death.[3][4]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

McClanahan-218 and McClanahan-164 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents, same spouse [different estimated birth date needs to be sorted out]. Confusion / duplication arose because both were linked to different Margaret Lewis's as spouses [that merge proposed next]
