Biography

Andrew McCleland (McClellan) was born on 12 Jun 1678. He was baptized on 23 Jun 1678 in Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland, son of Andrew Mccleland and Jean Mcilwraith.^[1][2]

Andrew Mcclelland married Margaret McHaffie on 26 Jun 1707 in Kirkinner, Wigtownshire, Scotland.^[3]

• Janet Mcclelland, baptism 26 Mar 1710, Kirkinner, Wigtown.^[4] In the LW&T of Andrew McClelland (McClellan-206; 1752, Bladen Co NC) he lists his GRANDCHILDREN only as inheriting and a SON-IN-LAW Andrew McCelland as his executor. Might this son-in-law be husband to daughter Janet McClelland, and father of the grandchildren mentioned in the LW&T of Andrew McClelland (McClellan-206) ??? Why SON Andrew McClellan (McClellan-485) who supposedly died in Greene Co PA not listed in his father's LW&T ??? 10/12/2021 Crump-517/Casteel-604.

It is speculated that this Andrew emigrated to America. There seems to be no specific basis for this, although no records have been identified for Andrew and Margaret in Scotland after 1710.

Research Notes

An Andrew McClelan is listed on the Petit Jury list in 1740 in Saint Helena Port Royal Parish, South Carolina.^[5]

An Andrew McCleland is listed in 1763 living in Bladen County, North Carolina.^[6] If he died and his LW&T was proven in Court in 1752 then this would not be the same Andrew McClelland. Might this be the son-in-law Andrew McClelland that is mentioned in Andrew McClelland's 1752 LW&T ??? Crump-517/Casteel 604; 10/12/2021.

Andrew McClelland of Bladen County, Province of North Carolina, wrote his will on 21 Mar 1752. His will leaves his property to his grandchildren Thomas McClelland, Jane McClelland, Andrew McClelland, John McClelland and James McClelland, and identifies his son-in-law Andrew McClelland as his executor.His will was proved in court in June 1752.^[7]
