Biography

John McClelland was born on 10 August 1817 at Magheraculmoney, County Fermanagh, Ireland, the twin of Andrew [1] and the son of Robert McClelland and Sarah Armstrong. He was the brother of Andrew (McCelland) McClelland and James McClelland.

John married Jane Fitzpatrick, possibly, on 15 July 1841 in Magheraculmoney, County Fermanagh, Ireland [2].

John and Jane migrated to Australia, leaving in about October 1841 aboard the "Wilson", and arriving at Sydney, New South Wales on 7 January 1842. On the passenger manifest, they were recorded as John McLennan (22) an Agricultural Labourer and Jane McLennan (18) a House Servant, Protestants from Fermanagh. John could both read and Write and Jane could read. There is no mention of a child travelling with them. They had been sponsored by a Mr John Miller [3].

They were the parents of Sarah Jane (McClelland) Ellis, William McClelland, Anne (McClelland) Henry, Robert McClelland, Edward McClelland, James McClelland, Margaret (McClelland) Risk, Isabella Campbell (McClelland) Dillon, Andrew McClelland, Mary May (McClelland) Henry and Frances (McClelland) Linklater.

Jane died on 8 January 1889 at their son Edward's farm at Mount Pleasant, on the Omega Estate, at Kiama, New South Wales, Australia.

In the 1891 Census, John was living, on his own, at Foxground, Kiama, New South Wales, Australia [4].

John died on 29 September 1896 in Berry, New South Wales, Australia. [5].
