Biography

Margaret Alexander 'Peggy' McClung was born Oct 5 1755 to daughter of John McClung and Elizabeth Alexander. She married Robert Tate and they had 12 children. [1]
Robert Tate was born Mar 1753, died Jul 8 1832, age 79, and is buried with his wife in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery [2]
She died Sep 23 1839, age 83. She is buried in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemeter, Middlebrook, Augusta, Virginia [1]

Was a celebrated beauty and belle. There is a tradition that forty horses have been seen hitched to the palings at one time, the owners being admirers of Miss Margaret McClung, seeking her hand.
