Biography

When Holbert McClure was born in 1770 in Augusta, Virginia, his father, John, was 45 and his mother, Mary, was 29. [1] He married Mary McClure , who was his half niece, on January 29, 1795, in his hometown. The marriage was performed by Samuel Gray of Botetourt County, Virginia. [2]They had four children in 13 years. He died on October 22, 1838, in Adams County, Ohio, at the age of 68, and was buried in Cherry Fork Cemetery. .[3]

Written In Adams County, Ohio:"On the fifth day of September in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty five between Samuel McClure of the one part and Holbert McClure of the other part Witnesseth thatand in consideration ofa provision in the said Holbert McClure Will by him this day signed the provision is as follows that the said Holbert McClure does Will and bequeth to Samuel McClure one hundred & fifteen acres of land. The land on which the said Samuel McClure now lives, the said Samuel McClure does agree to pay the said Holbert McClure his father Twenty Dollars a year to be paid annually during his, the said Holbert McClures lifetime, & also the said Samuel McClure does agree to pay the tax of said tract of land yearly. The said Holbert McClure is now about to remove to Indiana to live with his daughter and if the said Holbert McClure is disatisfied and wishes to return he is to have possession of the place and to live with Samuel McClure as he has here to fore done. In that case the said Samuel McClure is not to pay the twenty yearly above mentioned.
