Additional Bio

James and his wife, Jean Andrews, were part of the Ulster-Scot Migration. Arriving in Boston May 1720 the ship "Joseph". He Bought 100 acres of land in Chester, Rockingham County, NH in 1737. He was killed by the fall of a tree in 1745, presumably while clearing a part of his 100 acre lot. He is listed on the first lot map for the town of Chester. He and his family is also noted in the history of "Old Chester" published in 1869.

His death inquest was held in Chester, New Hampshire by the King's Coroner with 18 witnesses viewing is body and is dated 30 Sept 1745. Signatures (or their marks) are present on the inquest document as well as the coroner.

At the time of his death (1745), there was no town cemetery in Chester, NH and we believe he and his wife are buried behind the Cabin on his 100 acre lot. No grave or grave stone has ever been found, and it was the custom to bury a deceased family member on the property. This memorial will be the only remembrance of James and Jean MacClure.

He left six known young children and a widow at his death. There is no documentation found to date regarding James MacClure's wife, Jean as to who her parents are, when/where she was born or when/where she died? We assume she too is buried very near to James on the family property.

The six known children of James & Jean are Frances, Thomas, Alexander, Isabel, William and Mary. Family history says there there was one more son, but he is not named and recent indications are that he may have been named David.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
