Notes

A TOPOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY OF SCOTLAND, by Samuel Lewis. Published in 2 vols, London, 1846. "BUITTLE, a parish, in the stewartry of Kirkcudbright, 4 miles (S. E. by S.) from Castle-Douglas ; containing, with the village and port of Palnackie, 1059 inhabitants. This place is of great antiquity, and there are still some remains of its castle, supposed to have been the principal seat of the ancient lords of Galloway.

Buittle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buittle Buittle is an ecclesiastical and civil parish in Dumfries and Galloway, southwest Scotland, in the traditional county of Kirkcudbrightshire. It lies to the west of the Urr Water, between Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas, and extends from Haugh of Urr in the north to Almorness Point on the Solway Firth in the south. The main settlement is the small village of Palnackie.

The Parish of Buittle. Monumental Inscriptions (M.I.'s) The parish contains two burial grounds both at the church. Within the grounds there are the remains of an ancient church and many old gravestones. Nearby is a more modern cemetery. Transcriptions of all gravestones, along with their photographs, are accessed via the menu in the source. [ An examination of the inscriptions in the graveyards showed no McCormick or Lindsay burials.]

Biography

Laughlin and his wife Jean Lindsay are supposed to have migrated from Buittle, Scotland to Bonaventure County Quebec, Canada around 1810-12, yet their son Hugh is supposed to have married in Bona Co in 1808. Did Hugh come first?

Laughlan appears in the 1825 census of Canada living in Maria, Bonaventure, Quebec with a household of 6 people.

The death date of 14 November 1845 in Maria, Bonaventure, Quebec is confirmed by Quebec Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection) 1621-1968. The burial in New Richmond is presumed.

Alexander Muirhead McCormick's baptism 16 March 1801 in Buittle, Kirkcudbright, Scotland puts Laughlin and Jean still in Scotland.

Lucy McCormick's baptism 17 December 1791 makes Laughlin and Jean born no earlier than 1771.

If Elizabeth (McCormick) Robertson's estimated birth date is correct (1787) then Laughlin and Jean are born no later than 1767. The estimate of 1810-12 coming to Quebec seems justified. They certainly were in Maria by 1825 when they appear in the census. Laughton's death date is firm it comes from Roman Catholic records in New Richmond, and he might have been buried in the catholic graveyard.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Laughlin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Laughlin:

Hello David,

My source material is a plethora of the information on ancestry. com which l clearly stated but did not copy/ paste If that is not sufficient, l guess l will need to take a hike.!! I'm working currently on a very hyperactive Kindlefire notebook which makes cutting and pasting impossible. I don't want to leave inaccurate information up, which unfortunately other people have already copied. My information about my grandfather is correct. James Francis McCormick, 1872-1920, Livingston County, Avon/ Fowlerville , New York State. I'm an experienced researcher and it is easy to find the correct information about him. I know his parents and siblings names since l actually met some of his siblings. Your James, William, Laughlin and Jane do not share in my DNA . I have tried to remove this information but WikiTree won't accept my attempts. Perhaps you can do it, since you posted it . I had no idea that it's permissible to change someone else's info. Thank you kindly in advance . Wikitree is not an easy site to navigate. Sharon Dean.
