Biography

Bertha was the third child and only daughter of John and Regina Kraemer McCormick.^[1][2] She was less than a year old when her father died. She grew up on the family farm near the hamlet of Macton.^[3]

At age 20, she was no longer living in the family home as she is not listed with her mother on the 1921 Canada Census.

She married Earl Shantz in Waterloo, Ontario, when she was 34 years old.^[4]They are the parents of two children, a daughter who died at birth,^[5] and one son.^[6] Her husband died when she was about 59 years old.

She died at age 94 and is buried with her husband in Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener, Ontario.
