Biography

Hugh McCormick was born on 9 Aug 1810 in Eden Island Townland, Donagh Parish, County Monaghan, Ireland, son of Alexander McCormick (1791 - 1863) and Margaret (Martin) McCormick (1792 - 1832). It is likely that Hugh was born in Eden Island since he is listed as living there in an 1821 church "census". [1] The date of birth comes from an unsourced family tree prepared by the Sun Oil Company. This tree was the result of research done ca. 1948 to find all the living descendants of Hugh McCormick to determine the inheritance of an oil well in Texas. [2]

His siblings were:

  1. Andrew McCormick (1813 - 1899)
  2. William McCormick (~1815 - ~1880)
  3. Henry McCormick (1818 - 1888)
  4. Mary (McCormick) McGirr (~1820 - >1891)
  5. Alexander McCormick (1821 - )

Hugh married Margaret Busby (1810 - 1852) on 15 Nov 1829 in the Diocese of Armagh, Ulster, Ireland. [3] Their children were:

  1. Ann McCormick
  2. Alexander George McCormick
  3. Ann (McCormick) McConnell
  4. Margaret (McCormick) Carkner
  5. Jane (McCormick) McPherson
  6. Elizabeth (McCormick) Carlyle
  7. Hugh McCormick
  8. Mary (McCormick) Pearson
  9. Robert McCormick
  10. Henry McCormick
  11. Sophia Charlotte (McCormick) Hutchinson.

Hugh married Eliza King (~1830 - ~1860) on 8 Feb 1853 in Canada West. They had no children. [4]

Hugh married Harriet Mix (~1829 - ~1863) on 7 Feb 1860 in Ottawa, Carleton County, Canada West. [5] Their children were:

  1. Charles Henry McCormick
  2. Harriet McCormick.

Hugh married Elizabeth Cobb (1833 - 1915) on 7 Jul 1864 in Osgoode, Carleton County. [6] Their children were:

  1. Gertrude (McCormick) Irving
  2. William James McCormick.

Hugh died on 5 Sep 1880 in Ventnor, United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Ontario, Canada aged 70. [7][8][9]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hugh by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Hugh:
