Hugh McCormick was born on 9 Aug 1810 in Eden Island Townland, Donagh Parish, County Monaghan, Ireland, son of Alexander McCormick (1791 - 1863) and Margaret (Martin) McCormick (1792 - 1832). It is likely that Hugh was born in Eden Island since he is listed as living there in an 1821 church "census".

The date of birth comes from an unsourced family tree prepared by the Sun Oil Company. This tree was the result of research done ca. 1948 to find all the living descendants of Hugh McCormick to determine the inheritance of an oil well in Texas.
