In 1885, [2] he went with his son, Leon, to Kansas, near Hoxie, where he homesteaded 160 acres. His second wife, Dorothy also homesteaded 160 acres, and proved up another claim by planting trees, which were scarce at that time in western Kansas: this was near the small town of Tasco. They removed to Oklahoma City about the end of August 1894.
