Biography

Jane McCullough was born the 30th March 1812 in Clarke county, Georgia. Jane was the daughter of William McCullough and Sarah Downs.

Jane's father William McCullough named Jane as one of his daughters in his last Will and Testatment dated 23rd October 1832 in Clarke county, Georgia.[1]

Jane married Alvis A. Harper on the 19th January 1835 in Morgan county, Georgia.[2]

Jane appears in the 1850 Federal census in Morgan county, Georgia in the household of her husband Alvis Harper. Alvis Harper's household appears as follows: Alvis age 42; Jane age 34; Sarah J. age 15; William F. age 13; Elizabeth A. age 10; Frances age 8; Mary C. age 6; Nancy F. age 4; Amanda C. age 2; and Alvis age 1 month. [3]

Jane, age 45, appears in the 1860 Federal census in DeWitt county, Texas as head of household. Jane is the only individual listed as living in her household.[4]

Jane, age 59, appears in the 1870 Federal census in DeWitt county, Texas in the household of her brother Thomas McCullough.[5]

Jane, age 69, appears in the 1880 Federal census in Gonzales county, Texas in the household of her son-in-law Sampson Brown. The census was enumerated on the 15th June 1880 and the census taker noted in the column for Health that Jane suffered from "Paralysis".[6]

Jane died on the 20th June 1880 in Gonzales county, Texas. Jane is buried in the Leesville Cemetery, Gonzales county, Texas.[7]
