Biography

Catherine/Katie McDaniel was born about 1796 in the Cherokee Nation (East), the daughter of Alexander McDaniel and his second wife, Catherine WIlson. Catherine married Thomas Raper about 1814. In 1818 Thomas took a reservation of land under the Treaty of 1817 "in right of his wife". At that time Katie and Thomas had a family of five. [1] The 1835 Cherokee Census shows the family living on "Nottley River" in North Carolina with a family of six. [2] Katie and Thomas had at least five children: Jackson, Susannah, Alexander, Nancy and Mary(Polly). [3] The 1851 Chapman Roll shows Catherine and Thomas (ages 55 and 54) living next to son Alexander and daughter Nancy. [4]

In 1870, Catherine was living with her daughter, Nancy Lambert and her family in Fannin County, Georgia. [5] In 1883 Catherine, age 90, appears on record for the last time, living at England's Point in North Carolina. . [6] She is believed to have died shortly after this date.

McDaniel-3220 and McDaniel-21 appear to represent the same person because: Clearly meant to be the same woman. James Hicks believes Katy/Caty/Catherine's mother was Catherine Wilson. Circumstantial evidence (a court case involving her mother, her brother, and her brother-in-law Jesse Raper) supports this conclusion.

This Katie seems to be a duplicate of McDaniel-530. Same parents, siblings, spouse.
