On 24 Jan 1842 Stephen, Margaret (nee Jenkins) & their daughter Mary (aged 7 months) arrived in Sydney on board one of the first ships 'Margaret'.
They worked in Sydney for a few years to pay off the debt incurred for travelling. Their only son Antony was born on Cumberland street on 27 Feb 1844. Some of Antony's records show him as Antony McIIroy - this was due to illiteracy at the time.
It wasn't until 1846 they started their trek on bullock train (with a mob of sheep) across the Blue Mountains, through Victoria and finally arriving in Penola, South Australia.
Their 2nd daughter (and last child) Margaret was born in Penola on the 19th Feb 1848.
His correct age is unknown as he thought he was about 15 at the time of the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. His Immigrant record in 1842 states he was 29. - His death certificate states he was 83.
He is buried in the Old Penola Cemetery, Penola, South Australia.
