Biography

William was born in 1921. He is the son of William McFerrin and Iva Moran.

Obituary

He was a World War II Army veteran taken prisoner at the Battle of the Bulge. He was held in a German prison camp for six months, where his weight dropped from 185 pounds to 85 pounds. He retired from Mare Island Naval Shipyard in 1979 then moved to Las Vegas. In 1992, McFerrin became the first recipient of the national Distinguished Prisoner of War Medal. He also was honored by Bunkers Memorial Parks as the 1997 Veteran of the Year. He was proud of being a veteran and never missed a Veteran's Day parade. Survived by; wife, Mary Jane; grandson, Ronald McFerrin who he raised; daughter, Carol Ann Alexander of Las Vegas; and a nephew, Dennis McFerrin of Oroville, Calif.
