Elizabeth and James Edmundson married 18 Sep 1786, in Greene County Records, ten years before Tennessee was a state.[1] A James was an American Revolutionary War Hero and a man of that name fought in the War of 1812 (per FamilySearch). So maybe they had a child named James before he died?
She died in 1819 in Lawrence, Alabama, USA.* 2010 Find A Grave: Memorial #51628351, Elizabeth Johnson Johnston (15 Jul 1764–1819), citing Rock Springs Cemetery, Mount Hope, Lawrence County, Alabama, USA.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:
I have confirmed that the McGaughy family from the Carolinas is NOT the same as the McGaughey family from Pennsylvania. The Elizabeth McGaughy that married Richard Holmes could not have been in two different states having children at the same time with multiple husbands. This Elizabeth McGaughey profile here is for the daughter of William McGaughey II and Elizabeth Lackey. There is a marriage record here for James Edmundson but she didn't have a family with him, apart from perhaps one son. She had a large family with William Johnston Sr in Kentucky and their descendants match both families genetically. Many of us have searched unsuccessfully for the marriage record for Elizabeth McGaughey and William Johnston but no such record exists in any state archive in TN or KY. It's possible it could be found in NC or VA records. Elizabeth died of yellow fever in 1819 just after both the Johnston and McGaughey family were granted military bounty land in Lawrence County, Alabama and moved there. Their son John Miller Johnston also died at the same time. There is a Findagrave profile for her at the Rock Springs Cumberland Cemetery where the rest of the McGaughy family is buried but there is no headstone or record of her burial there. It's more likely she is buried at the lost Concord Cumberland Cemetery where the Johnston's were buried closer to Hatton.
