Biography

Jesse was born about 1787 and lived in Laurens County, South Carolina between 1790 and 1810. [1] Jesse McGee moved to Madison County, Alabama some time between 1810 and 1818. [2] His parents John and Winney sold their property in Laurens County in 1813. [3]

John McGee (MeGee in the records) purchased two 160 acre tracts of land in Madison County Alabama on credit from the government (under the authority of the Harrison Land Act of 1800). The tract in section 10 was purchased in 1814, and the tract in section 3 was purchased in 1817. [4]

Jesse made payments on the land in section 10 between 1814 and 1818. After the final payment, Jesse received the land patent, as assignee of John MeGee, on 21 Nov 1818. [5] Thomas Norman, who owned adjoining land, received the patent for the tract in section 3 in 1825 (as assignee of John McGee). [6] Thomas Norman had also lived near John and Jesse in Laurens County, South Carolina.

Jesse and his wife Stacy sold their Alabama land on 22 Aug 1835 to Richard Mitchell. [7] They purchased land from Thomas Childs in Lincoln County, Tennessee on 27 Sep 1835. This land was on the waters of the west fork of Mulberry Creek. [8] Jesse and Stacy McGee remained in Lincoln County until their deaths.
